Also, Lionel issued a product alert with information about paint issues on the new Milwaukee Road EP-2 Bipolar locomotive. Lionel received reports that paint was chipping between the 3 sections of the locomotive during shipping. As a result, Lionel has established a return policy for those who own a Bipolar with paint issues. Read the product alert here.
Corgi's new 2008 1st half catalog is now available on-line. On page 6, there's a cool limited edition "Heavy Hauler" 1:50 scale Kenworth truck pulling a 5 axle lowboy trailer with an abandoned PCC street car as the load. It's been over a year since Corgi released a new catalog. Download the new catalog here.
MTH's new 2008 Ready To Run catalog is now available on-line. I'm glad to see the Blue Comet set is being offered again. The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner and UP SD70ACe sets are sweet too. Check out the catalog here.
Lionel released 3 catalogs on-line early this morning. The 2008 "Signature Addition" Catalog Volume 1 is filled with 200 pages of O Gauge and American Flyer goodness. K-Line by Lionel 2008 Catalog Volume 1 features the Milwaukee Road's Olympian Hiawatha on the cover. Lionel, taking a page from the MTH play book, introduced a new "Ready To Run" catalog featuring all their traditional lower end train sets, rolling stock and accessories. Lots of great new products in all the catalogs. Check them out for yourself by clicking on the links below.

MTH has published a list of corrections for their 2008 Volume 1 catalog. View the list here.
MTH's 2008 Volume 1 catalog is available to be viewed online. The latest from MTH includes a number of items in MTH's less expensive but highly detailed Imperial Line. These items include the 4-6-4 Hiawatha Passenger Set which is a great deal at a MSRP of $499.99 for the 4-6-4 and a set of 4 passenger cars, the Norfolk & Western Class "J" Northern Steam engine and the 4-6-4 Hudson Empire State Express. I got a chance to look at most of the new Imperial Line products at the York show and they all were very nice.

Since purchasing a Southern Pacific GS4 Imperial Series locomotive from the last catalog, I've become a big fan of the Imperial line of MTH locomotives. This catalog contains a few new additions to the RailKing Imperial series including a 4-8-4 Northern, 0-6-0 Switcher and 2-8-2 Mikado. Other products that caught my eye are the RailKing 4-8-8-2 Cab Forward which operates on 0-31 track, the RailKing Commodore Vanderbilt 4-6-4 Hudson, the RailKing Galloping Goose, the Premier 4-6-2 K-4s Streamlined steam engine, the George Bush 41 paint scheme on the Premier SD70Ace and the set of Premier flat cars with M1a tank loads.

Weaver released a Fall '07 catalog supplement and made it available on-line here. Also, at the TCA Open House today I snapped a few pictures of Weaver's new brass crossing tower, switch tower and water tank. The photo of the tank shows a few paint imperfections because the brass model was hastily painted black the night before for the show. Pictures of the towers can be viewed here.

MTH announced today that their 2007 O Gauge Volume 2 catalog will be distributed at the York TCA meet on Thursday, April 19th and counter copies will arrive in hobby shops as soon as April 18th. Mailing list subscribers will receive their copies the week of April 22nd. The on-line version of the catalog will not be released until Monday, April 22nd.
If you're familiar the MTH v. Lionel trade secrets case or the Lionel v. K-Line technology theft case the name Robert Grubba should ring a bell. In the Lionel v. K-Line case, Lionel alleged that Mr. Grubba, its former Director of Engineering, played an important role in illegally passing Lionel's technology to K-Line while employed by K-Line. In the MTH v. Lionel case, Mr. Grubba held the post of Director of Engineering at Lionel when MTH alleged that Lionel stole trade secrets from MTH.
While paging through MTH's latest 2007 Ready to Run catalog on-line, I had to laugh when, in the Accessories section (page 61), I saw that MTH is offering a 3 Story City Building housing the offices of Grubba & Co. Paper Shredders.
You may remember my post from a few weeks ago announcing that several MTH Premier line steam locomotives in the MTH 2007 Volume 1 catalog where in danger of not being produced due to low early order sales. Well, MTH reported yesterday that all the Premier steam locos in question will be produced. MTH made the decision to add a new "wireless drawbar" to the locos in question plus other enhancements not documented in the catalog that I'm sure helped boost sales for these pieces.

The Lionel 2007 Volume 1 and K-Line by Lionel 2007 Volume 1 catalogs are now available on-line. Lionel's catalog includes a new 246E tinplate set and a beautiful Southern Pacific GS-4 (MSRP $1,199). The K-Line catalog is interesting, lots of SuperStreets and a few steam locomotives including K-Line's rendition of the Southern Pacific GS-4 (MSRP $599.99).
Lionel will be releasing it's new 2007 Volume 1 catalog at midnight on 1/23/07. The interesting news is that Lionel will also be releasing a separate K-Line by Lionel 2007 Volume 1 catalog as well. Lionel posted a "countdown clock" on their website recently which shows the cover of both catalogs. Lionel announced at the Fall 2006 TCA Open House (reported by OGaugeWatch here) that K-Line's Superstreets line of products will be produced in 2007. Superstreets adorns the cover of the 2007 Volume 1 K-Line by Lionel catalog. I assume the countdown clock is an indication that both catalogs will be immediately available on-line at midnight on 1/23.

The dead tree version of the 2007 Corgi catalog won't be mailed until March of '07 but you can view it on-line now. There are some very nice fire trucks, a Union Pacific Mack LJ with box trailer and a Chicago and Northwestern System Diamond T620 box van, all in 1/50th scale, that would be of interest to O Gauge modelers. Check out the catalog here.
Williams Electric Trains has published their Winter 2007 flyer. My favorites in this flyer are the Norfolk & Western 4-8-4 Class J
and the Pennsylvania Congressional GG1 and 4 car passenger set. For those looking for quality, traditional style trains at reasonable prices, Williams' trains are a great choice. They don't have all the fancy electronics and sounds but do have "Tru-Blast II" digital whistles and bells and they run as great as they look.
Check out the Winter 2007 flyer here. (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 or later)
Late last week MTH sent out an email to news letter subscribers announcing corrections for their 2007 Volume 1 RailKing/Premier and Tinplate catalogs. MTH seems to make a habit of publishing catalogs then following them up with an extensive list of corrections and clarifications. I was waiting for MTH to post the corrections on their web site so I could link to them in this article but for some reason they haven't so here are the RailKing/Premier corrections from the news letter. Also, the "early order" deadline for placing orders for items in both catalogs is 11/30/06.

I own two Beep diesels, an RMT caboose and two of the Buddy RDC's and love them. RMT products are great for small layouts but look right at home on larger ones, too. Check out my review of the RMT Buddy here.

Details about TMCC2 or TMCC "Legacy" have been the subject of many recent posts on the HiRail Times blog.

Jim from Jim's Train Shop provided a list of MTH product cancellations on the OGR forum. There are several NFL themed items on the list. You can view the entire list here. Apparently train manufacturers canceling products from their latest catalogs is a common practice when new items have low pre-order sales.
Adding Corgi die cast vehicles to your layout adds a real sense of realism. Corgi's second USA catalog for 2006 is now available on-line and contains some beautiful models. One model that is sure to attract attention on any O Gauge layout is a 1/50th scale Greyhound Scenicruiser Bus with Corgi's Sights and Sounds feature. This is the the first US based model containing Corgi's Sights and Sounds. The Sights and Sounds include operating headlights and blinkers as well as engine sounds and a horn all of which are controlled by a remote control. The retail price of the Scenicruiser is $90.00 and is scheduled to be available in October of this year.

The new Lionel 2006 Christmas Catalog is now available on line at www.lionel.com.
The Lionel 2006 Christmas catalog is now available at your local train shop. There are 24 new offerings from Lionel. My favorites include the Candy Cane Single Dome Tank Car ($59.99 MSRP) and the North Pole Central 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive ($109.99 MRSP). I'm sure the most popular offerings will be the new Polar Express items. There is a Polar Express Add-on Figure set which includes Santa, the Hobo, the Lonely Boy (Billy) and the Hero Girl. A perfect compliment to the four figures (The Conductor, Hero Boy, Smoke and Steamer) included in the Polar Express Set. There is also a new Polar Express Elf Handcar, including elves hanging from the handcar's handles ($74.99 MSRP). This is a replica of the hand car the elves in the movie use to deliver the detached observation car back to the train.
The most popular item is sure to be the Polar Express Add-on Hot Chocolate Car ($59.99 MSRP). This car is a coach car (not a diner) with silhouettes of the dancing "hot chocolate" waiters and

A new catalog from Lionel will be distributed to train shops within the week. Charlie from Nassau Hobby reported on the O Gauge Railroad forum that a new 15 page Christmas catalog is due from Lionel containing plenty of Christmas themed goodies. For all you Polar Express fans there are three new items including a new "Hot Chocolate" add on diner car that includes a golden ticket, a set of 4 figures and an elf Hand Car. There are plenty of other Christmas items as well. The catalog is not available on Lionel's web site and I'm not sure if it ever will be so see your local hobby shop for a copy.

MTH has posted their new 2006 Ready to Run catalog on-line today. There is a new Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer set which is interesting and the tin plate offereings are very nice.
Here are some of the highlights I found interesting in the new 2006 Lionel catalog.
The Lionel Catalog, set for release at midnight on 1/18, was discovered to be available well prior to the midnight launch by an astute O Gauge RR forum participant. Mark of Mojomark.com discovered the link as a result of some information he gleaned from Lionel's website when Lionel inadvertently posted a catalog link prematurely on 1/17.
UPDATE: Lionel has fixed their site and the countdown is back. Release is set for midnight tonight. Thanks for the update Mark M.
The Lionel website, which has been counting down the days, hours, minutes to the release of the new catalog, proclaims that the new catalog is now available for viewing. Clicking on the link returns "You are not authorized to view this page". Nice job Lionel.
